One of the biggest days in the Northern Territory has to be NT Day.
The Northern Territory has an all year round ban on fireworks. The weather, especially in the dry season from May to September, means that there is little rain and bush fires start easily.
Controlled burning of the land to encourage new growth and regeneration is conducted throughout the Northern Territory on a regular and systematic basis by the Rangers.
NT Day marks the anniversary of self-governance which was awarded to the Territory by the Commonwealth Government.
There is a spectacular free fireworks display on Mindil Beach. Naturally the best place to watch the display is from your own balcony making a romantic backdrop for photographs.
Locals try and out do each other with the biggest and best fireworks setting them off in the streets. I have to admit I have not seen anything as extreme as like this before!
